First Devlog
Hi, this will be my first "Devlog " on voxel shift. Even though I started the game months ago, I decided it was best to start documenting my work. I want to do this for my college portfolio. As my 9th grade year is just a week from ending I want to put the most effort I can to insure I get into MIT, by documenting my work, process, and journey.
Where I am at right now ( in general ):
- Can make simple systems, with only docs for syntax.
- Understand how gameobjects interact.
- Get the basics of level design and creating systems.
- Understand good vs. bad code.
What I want to improve ( in general ):
- Using less tutorials.
- Being able to finish a game in 2 days.
- Use saves.
- Implement Cameras for all screen sizes.
Voxel Shift is my first original game that I am making, but my biggest problem thus far is understanding that it does not have to be perfect, it just needs to exist.
What I have so far:
- Responsive Player Controller ( borrowed ).
- 7 Worlds.
- A format for levels within a world ( introduction - complex - alternate use ).
- Animations.
- Colors.
What I want to finish:
- Sound effects.
- Title screen.
- UI system.
- 10 worlds.
- Etc.
I think I will give myself a schedule of finishing the game by the end of the month, in hopes that I can move on to other projects. In the future I hope to create weekly updates, not for anyone in particular, but for myself.
